In this lecture, I will provide an overview of the field of hydrodynamic analysis of biological macromolecules. I will cover the topics of sedimentation and diffusion transport, and how they can be measured in an analytical ultracentrifugation experiment, and what other molecular properties can be derived from those transport processes. Next, I will discuss an orthogonal method for molecular identification, leveraging spectral properties of macromolecules of interest to biochemists, and how their different chromophores can be used to enhance the resolution of this technique when analyzing mixtures of solutes and their interactions.
