"Listening as a modality for engagement of art and others though resonance and vibration does not require a shift towards, or away from, an existing cultural formation nor suggest an ideal body, though it does make evident the material nature of structures and the conditions required to receive.

To be useful here, listening must be disentangled from the ear just as language and sound must be removed as requisite for vocality. Perception is always beyond a single sense and requires their intersection to create the potential for reception, I am working towards the ability to receive versus the ability to hear.

In this talk I will be looking to specific contemporary art practices where the voice operates as material to consider the intertwining of perception and reception and the invisible architectures that support or deny this possibility." ~ jake moore

jake moore is an intermedia artist who works at the intersection of material, gesture, text, and vocality to make exhibitions, events and other kinds of interventions public. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, she gained early art and life experience as the singer in the all-female punk rock band, The Ruggedy Annes; sonic potential has informed her practice ever since. She has held positions at MAWA (Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art) in Winnipeg, Studio XX in Montréal, and the FOFA Gallery at Concordia University with active feminist and decolonizing intentions. She is currently a PhD Candidate in Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University and the Director of Art Galleries and Collections and Assistant professor in Art and Art History at the University of Saskatchewan.
