During this session, curator Elina Suoyrjö shares her thoughts on curating as a process of enabling encounters between art works and audiences, creating atmospheres in exhibition spaces, and mediating energies.
Elina Suoyrjö is a curator and writer. Her curatorial practice builds upon working collaboratively and often site-specifically with artists through an intersectional feminist lens. Her current curatorial interests circle around ecofeminisms, hydrofeminisms, and transformative energies. Suoyrjö holds a PhD from Middlesex University London, an MA in curating from Stockholm University, and MAs in both history of art and gender studies from the University of Helsinki. Her PhD research explores feminist strategies in curating contemporary art, with focus on working with affect, emotion and energies. Suoyrjö currently works as the Director of Programs at the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York.
