Interior Design: A critical building block in creating inspired spaces
November 3 | 6 PM | Room L1060
Free admission, everyone welcome
Built environments support how we live, learn, work, and navigate space. They may impact people for a few days, months, years or for decades. As an interior designer focused on complex commercial projects across Canada, my experience has proven that utilizing design strategically does have the power to transform space profoundly, and that it requires purpose, vision and determination. From the coulees, to Toronto, across Canada and back again, I will share my experiences designing through major shifts, game changers, and perspectives that remain constant despite everything.
About Susan Jefferson
B.A.A.I.D / NCIDQ / LEED AP / IDC
When I obtained a 4-year bachelor’s degree in interior design at Ryerson University in Toronto, I did not realize the lifelong enjoyment it would bring. Success requires collaboration with skilled trades, architects, project managers, engineers, furniture manufacturers, graphic designers, human resources and inspired leaders with a vision. The design process is influenced by psychology, anthropology, cultural shifts, innovation, real estate, financial constraints, building systems, and specialty user requirements to name a few.
Working and living in Toronto for over 35 years on a variety of large projects has prepared me for the University of Lethbridge. Innovation, global disruption, and aging infrastructure require strategic vision to ensure our spaces continue to be relevant. Great design is more than “beautification”, at its best it creates a road map that ensures our built environments, new and old, reflect our values, mission, strategic plan, brand, and the communities who gather in these spaces.
