• Welcome to the Department of History at the University of Lethbridge! Our department includes an incredible group of professors, all with national and international reputations for their scholarship. Our geographical strengths are in western European and North American History, but we also offer courses in World History and Asian History, and our temporal expertise stretches from the Ancient World to the twentieth century.

  • As a small department, we take pride in getting to know our students and are dedicated to helping them succeed. In addition to our regularly-offered courses, our students have the opportunity to complete Independent Studies, where they research a topic of their own choosing, and Applied Studies, where they get credit for relevant work experience.  Even better than the opportunities we create for our students are the ones our students create for themselves. The Historical Undergraduate Society (or THUGS) is an extremely active and supportive student club.  Check out their Facebook page for more information.

  • Our small graduate cohort and close working relationships with other departments means we can tailor an M.A. program to suit your interests, and it’s easy to get involved with research centres like the Centre for Oral History and Tradition, the Institute for Child and Youth Studies, or the Galt Museum and other community groups.

History isn’t just the study of past events; it’s the study of how our world came to be.
