Open Access Publishers: Reputable? Questionable? How can you tell?

Do you want your published scholarly articles to be freely (and lawfully) available online to any interested reader? If you do, you are a supporter of Open Access (OA). But are you having trouble distinguishing reputable OA publishers from those who use seemingly deceptive business practices? Are you interested in knowing what kinds of OA publishing practices are considered to be “predatory” and how to tell questionable and reputable publishers apart?
