October 14 – 18 • Tribes by Nina Raine
8 pm • David Spinks Theatre
Billy’s wildly eccentric British family functions as a closed clique who gossip, debate and argue with each other. Deaf since birth, Billy is the only one who truly listens. It’s not until he meets Sylvia, a young woman who is becoming deaf herself, that he finally discovers what it means to be heard. The winner of the 2012 Drama Desk Award, Tribes is a humorous and poignant look at the battle between self-identity and family.
November 18 – 22 • Sauce for the Gooseby Georges Feydeau; translated by Peter Meyer
8 pm, University Theatre
In Belle Époque Paris, the beautiful Lucienne is romantically pursued by the adulterous Pontagnac and the lecherous bachelor Redillon. Though tempted, Lucienne stays true to her husband... until one of his previous ‘indiscretions’ unexpectedly arrives. Lucienne exacts her revenge at the ‘Hotel Ultimus,’ a favorite rendezvous for other philandering Parisiennes, and mayhem ensues! Sparkling with wit and physical comedy, this is one of Feydeau's most brilliant works and a classic French farce.
February 10 – 14 • Afterimage by Robert Chafe
8 pm, University Theatre
In a Newfoundland town, a woman develops the mysterious ability to see flashes of the future. The truth is hard to hide from other people, especially within her own family. When shocking secrets are revealed, danger looms not only on the horizon but also in the home. Winner of the Governor General’s Award, Afterimage features a suspenseful story as well as a heartbreaking perspective on the bonds and boundaries of love.
March 17 – 21 • Inclusion (working Title) by Lisa Doolittle
8 pm • University Theatre
Original. Unexpected. Possible. Moving from physical theatre, to storytelling, to dance, actors and dancers of all kinds of abilities mix it up to explore the incredible possibilities of inclusive artistic practice. Differences inspire dialogue and obstacles provoke invention. In the true creative spirit of community development, Inclusion continues work begun in the UpStart project - mixed-ability dance/drama workshops that are part of local and nationally funded research into arts and social change.
