In-person classes to resume on Monday, September 20, 2021

On Wednesday, Sept. 15, the Alberta government announced several public health restrictions to combat the spread of COVID-19. These measures include new restrictions on indoor activities unless individuals are vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a negative COVID-19 test, as outlined in the provinces Restriction Exemption Program.

Our Return to Campus plan aligns with these requirements. However, the Government of Alberta will only recognize programs such as ours beginning on Monday, September 20, which required our university to cancel classes temporarily (Sept. 16 to 19).

As such, in-person classes and on campus activity in support of teaching, research, and student services will resume on Monday, September 20, 2021 on both our campuses.

To meet the precise criteria of the Restrictions Exemption Program, the University is making  a minor adjustment to its current vaccination and rapid testing programStarting on Monday, September 20, 2021, students, faculty and staff, who do not have a vaccination exemption, will be required to rapid test every 72 hours to be eligible to be on campus. Please plan ahead to ensure availability of appointments.

At this time, all students, faculty and staff are able to declare their vaccination status and are required to upload their rapid testing results to the uLethbridge Safe app or website prior to arriving on our campuses.

The rapid testing program is in effect until October 31, 2021, after which all individuals accessing our Lethbridge campus must be fully vaccinated. All individuals accessing our Calgary campus must be fully vaccinated by October 22, 2021 (consistent with Bow Valley College’s deadline – the location of our Calgary campus).

The University will increase random verification of vaccination declarations during this time to ensure the integrity of the program.

If you haven’t been vaccinated, we encourage you to do as soon as possible. For example, in order for an unvaccinated individual at our Lethbridge campus to meet the November 1, 2021 vaccination deadline, a first dose must be administered by September 20, 2021.

We will continue to communicate to our campus community as further decisions are made. Specifically, information and direction about events on campus will be shared soon.

We have heard strongly from our community about the value of an in-person University experience and we have spent the past 18 months establishing the measures necessary to keep our students, faculty and staff healthy. We will continue to make decisions that ensure our face-to-face delivery format provides a meaningful and safe experience for our entire community.
