Introduction to Indigenous Legal Traditions - INDG2850
Prior to colonization, Indigenous Peoples had many systems of law that were grounded in their territories, languages, traditions, and philosophies. The revitalization of Indigenous legal traditions is an important aspect of both Indigenous resurgence and reconciliation within a colonial state. This course will introduce students to the emerging field of Indigenous legal studies. Course materials include a focus on three Indigenous lagal traditions from Canada and one from New Zealand. Instructional methods will include lectures, dicussion, and experiential learning.
