Condolence Notice — Makoyiippookaa (Wolf Child), Elder Bruce Wolf Child

The University of Lethbridge is saddened to learn about the passing of Makoyiippookaa (Wolf Child), Elder Bruce Wolf Child, who gifted ULethbridge the Blackfoot name of Iniskim, meaning Sacred Buffalo Stone, in 2002.

ULethbridge extends its sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Wolf Child was a member of the Elders Advisory Council of Red Crow Community College for over 20 years. He worked for several Blood Tribe departments, including Children’s Services, Board of Education, Tribal Police Service and the Peace Maker Program. He offered spiritual guidance to the community and was a member of Blackfoot sacred societies, including the Magpie Society and Brave Dogs Society. Wolf Child was a singer of sacred Blackfoot songs for more than 50 years and was blessed with songs from over 20 elders.

A service for Wolf Child will be held at noon on Saturday, May 31, in the Science Commons Atrium. The family requests that everyone bring their headdress. Free parking will be available.

ULethbridge will lower both the Blackfoot Confederacy and the University flag in Wolf Child’s honour.
