The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere sympathies to the family, friends, fellow students and instructors of Janine Jackson, who passed away June 2, 2023, at the age of 37.
Jackson was a graduate student in the Department of Indigenous Studies at ULethbridge. Born in Slave Lake, Jackson attended Red Deer College for a year after completing high school. She then moved to Lethbridge and completed the Culinary Arts program at Lethbridge College. When she decided to further her education, she came to ULethbridge for the Native American Studies program, as it was then known. She completed a bachelor’s in 2016 and was featured by ULethbridge as one of its oustanding students. She was most recently working on a master’s at the time of her passing.
An obituary can be found online at Martin Brothers. A Celebration of Life service was held on June 17, and the University was just recently informed of her passing. The University will lower its flags on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in honour of Jackson.
