Condolence Notice — Amara (Hellman) Welford (BEd/BFA – Dramatic Arts ’23)

The University of Lethbridge extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, instructors and fellow students of Amara (Hellman) Welford, who passed away on Sept. 12 at the age of 24.

Welford began attending the University of Lethbridge in 2017 in the Faculty of Arts & Science. In 2020, she focused on Fine Arts and Education and completed a BFA – Dramatic Arts and a BEd this year. Her degrees were conferred on Aug. 10 by Chancellor Terry Whitehead and her degree parchments and honour cords (distinction and great distinction) were presented to her on Sept. 7 by Dr. Lisa Starr, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Kathleen Massey, Vice-Provost (Students), at a special private ceremony at her home.

An obituary is available online at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel. A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Medicine Hat, Alta. The University will lower its flags that day in honour of Welford.
