BCHM 4000/5000/7000 – B: Metabolic Syndrome in Health and Disease
For Fall has been moved to Monday & Wednesday | 15:00 – 16:15
Course Description:
This course explores the biochemical and molecular foundations of metabolic syndrome, a cluster
of conditions including obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension that collectively
increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Students will examine the interplay
of metabolic pathways, hormonal regulation, and genetic predisposition in the development of
metabolic syndrome. The course emphasizes the role of diet, lifestyle, and environmental factors,
as well as current therapeutic strategies and ongoing research in the field. By integrating
fundamental biochemistry with clinical perspectives, students will develop a comprehensive
understanding of how metabolic dysfunction impacts human health and disease progression.
