Don't miss out on the opportunity to take Elementary Hebrew I (HEBR 1000) this fall 2021 with Dr. Kevin McGeough.  Current students can register for this course on the Bridge at ow.ly/g2ST50EDOwW. Visiting students should register via Open Studies. Learn more about Open Studies at ow.ly/d6GK50EDOyg.  This online course will teach students the fundamentals of ancient Hebrew. Over the course of two semesters, students will learn the vocabulary and grammar of the main language of the Old Testament and by the end of the year will be able to read the Bible in one of its original languages. Anyone interested in reading ancient texts, like the Old Testament or the Dead Sea Scrolls should consider taking this course. Students in fields like archaeology, ancient history, religious studies, or biblical studies will find this course useful as will anyone taking general linguistics courses. People working towards ordination in a tradition that requires knowledge of a biblical language will be able to earn transferable credit. Likewise, ancient Hebrew provides a good foundation for learning other ancient Near Eastern languages. The course will be fully online so students outside of Lethbridge will be able to take the course along with local students. The course will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-10:15 a.m., a time slot that should work for students all over the world. Please note that this is a course in ancient Hebrew and not in modern Hebrew. It will train students to read ancient texts, not to have conversations with living people.
