Agricultural Greenhous Gases Program

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is pleased to inform you that the Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Program (AGGP) is open for another five years. Up to $27 million will be invested between 2016 and 2021 to support research into greenhouse gas mitigation practices and technologies that can be adopted on the farm.

Announcing the renewal in Montreal on March 30th, 2016, the Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay emphasized that this Program is part of the Government’s commitment to “helping farmers respond to climate change with investments that will make the agricultural sector a world leader in the development and use of clean and sustainable technology and practices."

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is now inviting eligible applicants to submit new project proposals that will result in innovative practices and technologies to mitigate agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. The AGGP focuses on four priority areas: livestock systems, cropping systems, agricultural water use efficiency, and agro-forestry.

All applications submitted prior to July 8th, 2016 will be considered in the initial intake period. In order to be considered in this initial round you must ensure that your application is complete and that all necessary documents are included. Details pertaining to these requirements can be found in the Applicant Guide. Should funds remain uncommitted following the assessment of applications received prior to July 8th, 2016, applications may be accepted on an ongoing basis until all funding has been fully committed.

Please be advised that in no instance will any costs incurred prior to the signing of a contribution agreement be eligible for reimbursement. Project start dates and expenses should reflect the timelines required to assess applications and negotiate agreements for approved project.
