As the University of Lethbridge works toward a gradual and safe reopening of its facilities, Horns Recreation is pleased to announce the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport & Wellness will reopen on Monday, March 8 at 5:30 a.m. in a limited capacity. We look forward to welcoming our members back to our facilities.

What will change?

The Government of Alberta moved into Step 2 of their COVID-19 Reopening Plan on March 1, easing restrictions on indoor fitness. This announcement allows us to reopen our facilities; however, currently only low intensity workout activities are permitted. Time slot bookings will open on Saturday, March 6 on our Community Programs website at go.uleth.ca/sportrec.

Other operational changes will include:

  • MASK use is REQUIRED by all participants at ALL times (even during your low-intensity workout)
  • ALL cardio equipment in the Fitness Centre & on the Indoor Track is NOT accessible
  • ONLY walking is permitted on the Track level
  • ONLY free weights, strength/cable machines & stretching area is open for use
  • Physical distancing requirement of three metres between all users/participants.

Facilities to Reopen

The Ascent Climbing Centre and Fitness Centre/Indoor Track will be available for booking and individual use. Locker room facilities will be open and available for use. Due to group bookings, the Indoor Track may be unavailable for bookings at certain times due to exclusive use. Check the indoor track schedule for available times.

The Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre and Gymnasium facilities remain closed at this time. We will continue to monitor the easing of restrictions and reopen these facilities when applicable.

Hours of Operation & Procedures

Each person will need to book a time slot in advance to allow for control of numbers in the facility and allow for necessary cleaning between users. Once they’ve completed their workout, members will need to leave the facility in a timely fashion to allow for cleaning. Time slots are spaced 30 minutes apart to allow the equipment to be sanitized.

Facility Hours of Operation will be as follows:

o   Monday to Friday - 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

o   Saturday – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

o   Sunday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
