The final Drama visiting artist event of the 2018-2019 academic year is an open dramaturgical workshop for Greg MacArthur’s new play My Testimonial, followed by a reading of the play. This play was first created when MacArthur was in residence at the University of Lethbridge, and features “Greg” as a character with specific reference to his work as a U of L course instructor and his life in Lethbridge, Alberta. It is the third and final part of his Artist Trilogy (A City, A Man Vanishes). It has subsequently been workshopped in Montreal (Playwrights Workshop Montreal) and in Calgary (Craig Hall, Vertigo Theatre), and is scheduled to premiere in Calgary in early 2020. The dramaturgy session will involve one or more committed student performers, but is also open to auditors who can participate in the dramaturgical process for any length of time that they are available. The reading will be an open public event followed by a talkback session.

Greg MacArthur ( U of L alumnus) is a playwright, dramaturg, director, and teacher. For over twenty-five years he has been involved in the creation and development of new work for the stage. His plays have been produced extensively across Canada, as well as in South Africa, Germany, the UK, Mexico, Romania, Hungary, and the United States. They have been translated into numerous languages. His selected work includes: A Man Vanishes; Horror Story; Kate Bowie; A City; The Missionary Position; Tyland: The Toxic Bus Incident; Recovery; Get Away; Snowman; girls! girls! girls!. He was Dramaturg-In-Residence at Playwrights Workshop Montreal from 2005-2011 and was the Lee Playwright-In-Residence at The University of Alberta (2011 - 2013). He was short-listed for the 2011 Siminovitch Award for Playwriting. He studied performance at Ryerson Theatre School and recently completed an MFA in Interdisciplinary Theatre Studies at the University of Lethbridge.
