The Greatest Trick the Devil Ever Pulled:  The Enduring Ubiquity of White Supremacy
Guest Speaker:  Oludamini Ogunnaike
Day/Date:  Wednesday, February 7, 2018
Time:  7:00 p.m.
Location:  TH-201 (Turcotte Hall, University of Lethbridge)

Following the riots in Char-lottesville, much media attention has been directed towards the "surprising" rise of the "alt-right" and the "resurgence" of white na-tionalism. However, I will argue that these developments are nei-ther surprising, nor new, but rather part of an enduring trend in North and South American history—white supremacy. Drawing on both personal experiences and academic research, I will explore and highlight the more subtle, but no less virulent, manifestations of white supremacy in North America and globally that help explain and contextualize its more obvious manifestations in events such as the Charlottesville riots.

Everyone is welcome.  Light refreshments served.
