Beginning Fall 2017, the Department of New Media will be offering a new subject designation for its existing moving image courses: Cinema. These courses will be listed in the calendar and the timetable with the subject code CINE, instead of NMED.
All of these existing courses will remain the same, with one significant exception: DRAMA 3030 (Introduction to Film Studies) will now be offered as CINE 1000. This offering will be an introductory course leading to further studies in Cinema if desired.
The Cinema course offerings for Fall 2017 are as follows:
- CINE 1000 Introduction to Cinema Studies (Replacing DRAMA 3030)
- CINE 3010 Cinematography and Lighting (formerly NMED 3010)
- CINE 3200 Film Genres: Comedy (formerly NMED 3200)
- CINE 3550 History of Animation (formerly NMED 3550)
- CINE 4010 Narrative Production Techniques (formerly NMED 3510)
- CINE 4820 Writing for Comedy
Therefore, when you are consulting the timetable, and/or registering for your Fall 2017 classes, please be aware that courses offered by the Department of New Media will now have two different prefixes: CINE or NMED. This means that the courses will be listed in the timetable under two different subject headings: Cinema and New Media.
For example:
- CINE 4010 (Narrative Production Techniques) will be found in the “Cinema” subject heading
- NMED 4520 (Advanced Web Design) will be found in the “New Media” subject heading
