Carol Wainio has exhibited widely in Canada, including at the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, and internationally at the Stedelijk Museum, the Venice Biennale, the Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna in Bologna, and in the U.S. and China.  Recent artist residencies include the Frankfurter Kunstverein, in connection with the Walter Benjamin Children’s Book Collection. 

Her paintings are represented in major corporate and public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, Musée des Beaux Arts de Montréal, Art Gallery of Ontario, Glenbow Museum, and the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, among others. Touring solo shows curated by Michele Thériault and more recently, by Diana Nemiroff, have included exhibitions at Galerie UQAM (Montréal), Kelowna Art Gallery, Musée d’art de Joliette, the Varley Museum, MacIntosh Art Gallery and Dunlop Art Gallery, along with recent solo exhibitions at the Kitchener/Waterloo Art Gallery. 

She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts, 2014.  Since receiving her MFA from Concordia University, she has taught and lectured at many Canadian universities and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa.  Wainio is represented by Paul Petro Contemporary Art (Toronto) and Trépanier Baer Gallery (Calgary).
