Part One of Heaton's lecture looks at growing up in Lethbridge in the 1960's and how that has influenced the way he designs. Part Two looks at Architecture in general and his observations on how it has changed from shelter and space to form and surface.

Daniel Heaton is a Registered Architect with the Alberta Association of Architects and is the Senior Associate in charge of the Calgary Office of HFKS Architects.  Daniel joined after being an Associate in a large International Architectural firm and just prior to that with a respected Edmonton architectural firm. In 1983 Daniel worked with Robert K. Hirano Architect during the summers while completing his university education and after receiving his Master of Architecture degree in 1991 and went on to became a partner in 1995.  Before moving to Edmonton Daniel closed his 13 year partnership of Hirano and Heaton Architects in Lethbridge to further his professional development.  He has also worked for firms in Calgary and Winnipeg.

Daniel has been involved with over 500 architectural projects of various types including Industrial, Commercial and Single family Residences in Alberta.  He has 33 years industry experience, 20 years as a Registered Professional. He has specialist experience in Educational Facilities such as Schools and College and University buildings. Having completed 80 plus school projects ranging from minor renovations, roof and flooring replacements to over 12 full school Modernizations with budgets up to $20,000,000, Daniel is known in the industry as the “School Modernization Architect”.

In his 33 year professional career Daniel has won several awards including the Canadian Steel Institute Construction and the Canadian Association of Consulting Engineers awards for his Coal Banks Crossing Pedestrian Bridge in Lethbridge.
