This recital features a collection of art songs written in the past 60 years, celebrating composers from Canada, USA, and Britain.

Courtney V. Murias is a proud alumna of the University of Lethbridge (BMus ‘09). Her performance career and education have taken her across Canada and the world, including France, Germany, England, Cuba and the USA.

Through the beauty of music and the power of story telling, Courtney strives to cultivate meaningful connection and explore classical genres with modern audiences. Courtney has a strong interest in French romantic music and contemporary English song, and also performs in French, German, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Latin, and Spanish.

Courtney is currently a roster artist with The Cowtown Opera Company where she has performed at numerous cultural events in Calgary such as, Alberta Culture Days, Random Acts of Culture, Acumen Calgary, and Opera Gems in Fort Macleod. In May 2016 she performs Angelina in the revamped production of Rossini’s Cenerentola called Ella: Cinderella goes to Comic-con.

Courtney is an alumna of the Calgary Opera Emerging Artist Program and performed in their 2015 summer festival (Molly/Nephythys/Tahemet, Scorpions’ Sting) and 2014 summer festival (Hansel, Hansel and Gretel) and on the main stage (Kate Pinkerton, Madame Butterfly). She has also performed with the Canadian Opera Company chorus (Il trovatore and La clemenza di Tito).

She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Lethbridge, and a Master of Music from the University of Western Ontario. She currently resides in Calgary with her husband and 2 year old daughter, Valene.
