A Prospective Commentary on a talk by Paul Callaghan entitled ‘Surprising Connections: The Diverse World of Magnetic Resonance’
David Siminovitch
University of Lethbridge
Thursday April 9th, 2015
1:40 pm, Room C640, U Hall
Abstract:
The history of magnetic resonance provides an example of the way that science generates unexpected benefits. Those of us who work in this field of research stand at the conjunction of so many branches of science, whatever our starting discipline. At a time when science is impacting more and more on all our lives, when science issues are at the centre of public policy debates, the public exhibits a degree of skepticism about science (not all of which is unhealthy), we struggle to interest our youth in pursuing science education, and we face funding agencies increasingly driven by agendas which demand beneficial outcomes in the short term.
