Overview: Destination Exploration is collaborating with several research labs within the University to host an Indigenous STEM Expo on May 19th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Science Commons Atrium (7th level). During this community event, youth and their families will come to the Science Commons for hands-on STEM activities, lab tours and more. The event is open to the public and it is anticipated that many students will be in Grades 1-5. This expo aims to highlight the amazing science research being done at Iniskim University to the public, with a special consideration to any Indigenous Knowledge connections with STEM we can highlight. DE will provide the spaces, marketing, activities and food for this event while research labs will showcase their research at booth-style tables and invite interested participants on lab tours. Food will be served platter style with a seating area. There will be a small drumming and powwow dance demonstration in the atrium near the end of the event day.
