This course will introduce students to British literary history
from 1660 to 1800, and the genres and authors associated
with the restoration, satirical, sentimental and early romantic
periods. Students will examine the major literary
achievements of Dryden, Congreve, Swift, Barbauld, Gray,
Cowper, Equiano and Wollstonecraft from a time of political
stability through to revolutionary upheaval.
