Bill Nye and the Biblical Flintstones (Some Constructive B.S. (Biblical Studies) on Debating Creationists

In February, 2014, the famous science educator, Bill Nye, debated Ken Ham, the founder of Kentucky’s (in)famous Creation Museum on the question, “Is creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern scientific era?”  Dr. Linville argues that such events are only superficially about science but are a form of ritual resistance to modernity and  secularism.  Even though creationism has never evolved a single scientific leg to stand on, Ham easily defeated the secular dragon represented by Nye.  Nye’s  arguments in defense of scientific  methodology simply followed the script the ritual had prescribed for him and he only  occasionally made ill-prepared counter-attacks on the integrity of the Bible as  understood by Ham.  Scientists who  engage creationists should be prepared to force the issue that creationism does not have a viable model of biblical origins, transmission and interpretation for a modern and scientific era.  At one time a theology student, Darwin likely had some familiarity with the then-current status of biblical scholarship.  Linville’s presentation seeks to provide the public defenders of Darwin a bit of the same.

Everyone welcome.
