The Storyteller at Large Applied Studies Program does just that by integrating academic learning from across disciplines with meaningful community engagement and practical experience. Students earn academic credit while strengthening valuable transferable skills such as communication, adaptability, creativity and public speaking — skills that serve them well both now and in their future careers.
For nearly 50 years, a unique partnership between the University of Lethbridge and the Lethbridge Public Library has empowered students to share the art of oral storytelling with the community. Storytellers bring myths, legends, folktales and fairytales to life for children, families and seniors throughout the city — keeping the tradition of oral storytelling alive, while strengthening community connections and fostering essential employability skills.
Through workshops, professional development opportunities and real-world storytelling experiences, students can bridge classroom theory with practice. Past participants from programs across campus have created personalized Applied Studies courses that combine academic inquiry with oral storytelling. The result? Learning that resonates beyond the classroom and prepares students to thrive in any path they pursue.
