The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) presents a session discussing the common audiology ailment, tinnitus.
Tinnitus: The Sound of Silence?
Is there ever such a thing as perfect silence? Tinnitus is the perception of sound when there is no actual external sound. For people with tinnitus, it can be difficult to find silence, and tinnitus can fill even the quietest moments with unwanted sound. It’s like that ringing sound in your ears after a loud concert, after mowing the lawn, or using power tools. For most people, tinnitus isn’t problematic. When tinnitus becomes chronic, additional help may be needed. The speaker will discuss what tinnitus is, what it means, why it happens, when to seek help, and what can be done about this very common complaint in the hearing clinic.
Speaker: Dr. Glenn Hole, Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Glenn Hole is a published researcher and Doctor of Audiology. He is interested in psychoacoustics, hearing aid technology, tinnitus,and hyperacusis. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Audiology from Bristol University in the UK (2009), an Advanced Studies Certification in Tinnitus and Hyperacusis (2016), a Master of Science in Clinical Audiology from Salus University (2020), and a Doctor of Audiology. He has previously spoken at SACPA on the effects of hearing loss on cognitive health and cochlear implant devices for people with profound hearing loss. Outside work, Glenn enjoys fitness, music, hiking, camping and spending time with his wife and three young children.
Date/Time: Thursday, Sept 24, 2026. The presentation begins at noon & concludes at 1 p.m.
Free to attend. Donations, however, are gratefully accepted.
Location: SACPA sessions are held at Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization (LSCO), Atrium Dining Room, 500 - 11 Street South, Lethbridge
