The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) presents a session discussing community pride through the expression of front yards.
Public or Private Space? Front Yards as a Tool for Community and Biodiversity Development
Privately-owned front yards have the potential to be significant community-building spaces that contribute to your neighborhood and to nature. While still being a private space, front yards arguably are a window into what you value and how you show up for your neighbours.
Best Front Forward was a Helen Schuler Nature Centre campaign that ran to resounding success in March-October 2025. This recognition program was designed to both inspire and thank residents with amazing front yards around the city. Hear from campaign coordinator Paige Rosner about the many incredible discoveries and inspiring stories to come out of this program, why it’s important, and how the Best Front Forward campaign became so much more than was expected.
Speaker: Paige Rosner, Environmental Educator & Community Project Lead – Helen Schuler Nature Centre
Paige Rosner has worked as an environmental educator at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre since 2015. She coordinates the Natural Leaders Project which includes action-based school, community and professional development programming in Lethbridge. The best part of her job is learning new things about this city and all the people who make it amazing. In her spare time, she loves to work on her 120-year-old house, participate in the many great cultural and art events this city has to offer, and spend time outside in the mountains, coulees or in her ever-evolving yard.
