SACPA Session — Fear and Loathing in Alberta - How do we Overcome it to Save the Prairie Rattlesnake?

The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) presents a session discussing the fate of the prairie rattlesnake and how to protect its future.

Fear and Loathing in Alberta - How do we Overcome it to Save the Prairie Rattlesnake?

The prairie rattlesnake is one of the three species remaining in Canada, and they are facing unprecedented pressures through road mortality and habitat loss. There is no question that if this iconic species is to persist in Canada’s wild west, it will require humans to sanction their survival. Join Sheri Monk to unravel how perception and myth can lead to persecution and fear, and how we can fight back with truth, compassion and empathy.

Speaker: Sheri Monk, owner, Snakes on a Plain

Sheri has been passionate about rattlesnakes for 20 years in the Canadian Prairies and has travelled extensively to study other venomous species. In fact, she moved west from Winnipeg just to be closer to the prairie rattlesnake, which is found only in southern Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan.
