The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) presents a session with Afghani emigrant Zohal Naqshbandy as she describes her journey to Canada and the Taliban's ongoing efforts to establish control in the country.

BREAD, WORK, FREEDOM! The Chant of Women in Afghanistan

Afghanistan may be fading from the daily news, but a dramatic struggle continues as the Taliban try to secure their rule. Our speaker and her family are recently arrived immigrants from that land. She has an insider’s report to give on the state of the land and the success of the Taliban in establishing control and loyalty. She also can share information on the resistance of women in that land — and their struggle to regain access to education and other rights. She will tell us about their own journey to Canada.

Speaker:  Zohal Naqshbandy

Moderator:  Terry Shillington

Zohal Naqshbandy migrated to Canada in 2016. She has a BA in economics and is a registered immigration consultant. Before emigrating to Canada, she co-founded a non-profit organization in Afghanistan that focused on women’s and children’s rights. She has taught university level micro-economics and macro-economics and has volunteered with university students preparing for TOEFL and IELTS exams and applications to study abroad. She enjoys and finds value in helping people understand their goals, seeking opportunities and learning to respect other people and their cultures. She speaks Persian, Urdu, Hindi and English.
