Read for 15

Reading is still considered key to student achievement in all subjects, according to The National Reading Campaign. Family Literacy Day on January 27th gives families and adults in our community the chance to model, share and celebrate the joy of reading and have the opportunity to participate in a reading challenge sponsored by libraries across Canada! Most of us will find it easy to clock 15 minutes of reading, just by checking emails, returning texts or browsing Facebook posts, but our day will likely also include reading news articles, information for work, or books for pleasure, especially with a little reading buddy.

The Lethbridge Public Library is convinced we have a huge community of readers in Lethbridge, so they're asking everyone to read for 15 minutes on January 27 and post to Facebook (facebook.com/lethlib/; @lethlib), send a tweet (#readfor15yql; @lethlib) or an email (questions@lethlib.ca), phone (403- 380-7310) or go to the Library and tell them about it.

Barbara Longair, Manager Children’s Services at the Library, says “This year ‘Read for 15’ is going Canada-wide, so Lethbridge, let’s show the rest of Canada we spend a lot of time reading and we’re up for a challenge. We’re hoping to be designated as the city that has the most readers per capita. The more people who read, the closer we get to winning ‘Most Readerly’ Community! We definitely want to beat Red Deer for the most readers in the province. Come on YQL!"
