There will be a public reading of award-winning playwright Meg Braem’s new play The Cut Grass Carnival.  This event is free and open to the public to attend.

Synopsis:
Set in Depression-era rural Alberta, The Cut Grass Carnival is the story of four lost souls who battle hunger, doubt and each other to make it big on the carnival circuit. Show director, Mirabel and performers, Narcy and Jimmy have left the bitter streets of rainy Vancouver only to arrive in Alberta with no dinner, no money and no chicken to geek. In an effort to scare up an audience, Mirabel meets Charlie, a charming vagrant who if promises were pennies would have his pockets spilling.  Using religion and bawdy showmanship, Charlie transforms the coastal carnival into a successful business. What starts out as the troupe’s quest for survival quickly turns into ambitions of fame and fortune. They finally make it big, but at the cost of everything they never knew they had.
