Nov. 4 | 7:30 pm | University Recital Hall
UPDATE! This performance is now SOLD OUT
The University of Lethbridge Opera Workshop presents an evening dedicated to Magnificent Mozart! A return to the stage under new director and Department of Music faculty, Dr. Sandra Stringer, the Opera Workshop presents fully staged scenes from familiar and not-so-familiar Mozart operas.
"I chose to present operas of Mozart because they are essential to the training of opera singers and are not easy to learn or perform. However, they are so beautiful and many of the scenes we are presenting are a good opportunity for the many women in Opera Workshop," says Dr. Stringer. The program presents favourites from The Magic Flute, Cosi fan Tutte, The Marriage of Figaro, and offerings from La finta giardiniera, Idomeneo, and, La clemenza di Tito.
Comprised of 14 talented voices, the Opera Workshop includes students participating for credit, and non-credit. Stringer's dedication and specialization in operatic performance spans her entire career and education. Having directed and assistant directed Opera Workshop periodically throughout her fourteen years as Department of Music faculty, this year marks Dr. Stringer's first season directing since the retirement of Dr. Blaine Hendsbee.
"We are thrilled to present two concerts this fall," adds Stringer. "Both programs are dedicated to opera favourites of mine: Magnificent Mozart on November 4, and A Celebration of Sondheim on December 9."
Tickets for both concerts are available at the new University Box Office, in the atrium on Level 6, Centre for the Arts, Monday - Friday, 12:30pm - 3:30pm, or online: ulethbridge.ca/tickets. Tickets are $20 regular, $15 seniors and alumni, $12 students. University of Lethbridge students may receive one complimentary ticket with their student ID.
