Campus Alberta Neuroscience and the Department of Neuroscience are pleased to present a one-day nano-symposium meeting at the University of Lethbridge, on the topic of “Imaging Cerebral Blood Flow, Metabolism and Function”. The general theme of the meeting will be to discuss topics related to numerous aspects within the area of neuroscience research, particularly those related to brain function and metabolism, cerebral blood flow, the function of the neurovascular unit and the blood-brain barrier, minimizing damage following brain injury, and strategies for enhancing post-injury repair and recovery.
The keynote speaker of the meeting is Dr. David Kleinfeld, Distinguished Professor of Physics and Neurobiology at the University of California, San Diego (http://physics.ucsd.edu/neurophysics/). Dr. Kleinfeld is world expert in three broad areas: active sensation, neocortical microcirculation and microinfarctions, and the murine angiotome. His group develops instrumentation and analysis procedures that facilitate the study of neurophysiology, especially those that involve optical imaging and molecular indicators of brain function. The two other speakers are Dr. Grant Gordon from the University of Calgary (http://ucalgary.ca/gordonlab/) and Dr. Ian Winship from the University of Alberta (www.ualberta.ca/~iwinship/). Dr. Gordon is expert on brain to vascular signaling pertaining to how brain cells control the delivery of brain blood. Dr. Winship uses advanced in vivo imaging modalities to investigate coding of somatosensory stimuli in cortical neuronal networks and to image the dynamics of collateral blood flow during stroke and treatment.
The meeting will be held in EP1201 (Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience).
