Music at Noon Series - Magdalena von Eccher, piano

This event is from the archives of The Notice Board. The event has already taken place and the information contained in this post may no longer be relevant or accurate.

The recital program will include Mozart’s Sonata in A Minor- a dramatic, tumultuous, yet hauntingly beautiful work, Chopin’s glorious, sweeping third Ballade, and a wonderfully imaginative work by Canadian composer, Jacques Hétu. An excerpt from the Iberia Suite by Spanish composer, Isaac Albeniz, will close the program.

Magdalena von Eccher is distinguishing herself as one of Canada’s finest young pianists. Her playing is intensely expressive, with integrity and grace, in a variety of solo, chamber, and concerto repertoire. She was awarded first place at the 2006 Canadian National Music Festival, the SOCAN award in the 2007 National Bösendorfer Competition and a top prize at the 2008 Knigge Piano Competition. She was the recipient of the Faculty of Fine Arts Gold Medal (2007) at University of Lethbridge, while studying with Glen Montgomery.

Magdalena completed her Master's degree under the guidance of esteemed Canadian pianist, Jane Coop, at University of British Columbia in 2011. The following summer she was the recipient of the UBC Strauss Foundation award, which gave her the opportunity to participate in studies at the University of Vienna and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Magdalena is presently on faculty at the University of Lethbridge as well as at the University of Lethbridge Conservatory.
