Music at Noon Series: Jianpeng Feng, percussion (China Conservatory of Music)

This concert features authentic Chinese percussion and how it is transposed to western composition.
Jianpeng Feng is a very active percussionist. He has performed in Japan, Germany, United States, and throughout China as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. He has judged national and international competitions, and has been invited to play recitals at various events. Some professional organizations he has worked with include the Duluth Festival Orchestra, China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, the China Movie Symphony Orchestra, the China Central Traditional Symphony Orchestra and the Beijing Symphony Orchestra.
As a solo percussionist he has won several competitions. Some major achievements include winning the PAS KoSA NYU Marimba Competition (2013), the third Chinese International Percussion (Snare Drum) Competition (2011), and the third Chinese International Percussion (Marimba) Competition (2011). Since 2012, he has been working with the China Conservatory and the Secondary School attached to China Conservatory giving master-classes, recitals, concerts and coaching ensembles. He has been working with, and introduced Andrew Beall, Tim Broscious, David Macbride, Dr. Gene Koshinski, Adam Mason, Ted Piltzecker, Joe Porter and Benjamin Toth to China. He has also coached traditional Chinese percussion music at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and The Hartt School. He has given master-classes and clinics at China Conservatory, Shenyang Conservatory, Wuhan Conservatory.
In the past year, he founded his own percussion ensemble and has travelled throughout China. In addition, he organized the 2015 University of Minnesota Duluth International Percussion Summer Camp and worked as director. He is the secretary-general of Percussion Arts Society Chinese Chapter and serves as a member of Percussive Arts Society International Committee.
