We would like to invite you and your colleagues to an information session hosted by Genome Alberta at the University of Lethbridge regarding Genome Canada launched funding competitions. In particular we will be discussing the Large Scale Applied Research Project competition (LSARP 2015) in natural resources. The natural resources sector encompasses research in the areas of energy, mining, forestry, water stewardship, wildlife management/conservation, and conservation of natural resources and environment. LSARP 2015 aims to support applied genomics research that address challenges and opportunities in Canada’s natural resources, thereby contributing to socioeconomic benefits for Canadians.
Date: June 17, 2015
Time: 11:00am to 1:00pm
Location: D610, University Hall, University of Lethbridge
Genome Canada’s funding competitions facilitate collaboration between Academia and Industry in order to address industry driven challenges through genomics based solutions. Genomics can be defined as encompassing multiple disciplines including bioinformatics, epigenomics, metabolomics, metagenomics, proteomics, nutrigenomics, pharmacogenomics, and transcriptomics. This information session will bring together interested Academics for potential research projects, inform them about opportunities for collaboration, and solicit interest in Genome Canada funding competitions.
Objectives
- Introduce stakeholders to Genome Canada’s Large Scale Applied Research Program (LSARP) 2015 in Natural Resources and the Environment
- Provide information about Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP) and Disruptive Innovation in Genomics (DIG)
- Showcase previous successes in industry-academic partnership
- Solicit support and commitment from researchers to develop projects for Genome Canada competitions
Contributors
Genome Canada is a not-for-profit organization that acts as a catalyst for developing and applying genomics and genomic-based technologies to create economic and social benefits for Canadians. Genome Canada connects ideas and people across public and private sectors to find new uses for genomics; invest in large-scale science and technology to fuel innovation; and translate discoveries into applications, new technologies, societal impacts and solutions across key sectors of national importance including health, agriculture, forestry, fisheries & aquaculture, energy, mining, and the environment. To ensure effective management and monitoring of Genome Canada funded projects, centres have been established in each region across Canada including Genome Alberta, Genome Atlantic, Genome British Columbia, Genome Prairie, Genome Quebec and the Ontario Genomics Institute. The Centres facilitate access to leading edge technology for researchers, allow for different approaches to project development and fundraising, and provide opportunities for public outreach programs at a regional level.
