Airdrie Robinson to join Collaborative Ensemble for Evening of Inspiration

Violinist Airdrie Robinson (MMus '14), alumna and music instructor will be joining the U of L Collaborative Ensemble in a unique mix of works for Folk Inspirations, Thursday, April 16th at the University Recital Hall at 8:00.

The Collaborative Ensemble will be featuring folk music pieces they have been working on this term and audiences can expect interpretations of folk songs by Aaron Copland, Manuel de Falla, Béla Bartók and more.

“The Collaborative experience is unique from other ensemble performances because it features a mix of smaller ensembles of students – this concert will feature all pairs and one trio,” says director Carolyn Herrington. “Part of the appeal of chamber music for just two or three performers,” continues Herrington, “is that it offers musicians an opportunity to create true partnerships with one another on a more intimate level than in larger ensembles, and to share ownership of that experience without requiring a conductor to lead them.”

Collaborative Ensemble is currently a course offered in the Bachelor of Music program in the Faculty of Fine Arts in which small groups of students have the opportunity to gain experience working together to perform music written for voice and piano/guitar or other instrument and piano/guitar. “In this semester’s class we have eight pianists and one guitarist, and they have the chance to work with many students from our vocal and instrumental studios,” says Herrington. “In addition, we are looking forward to working with our special guest, violinist Airdrie Robinson, a Master of Music alumna (2014) and currently an instructor of the U of L violin studio.”

Other guests will include singers Melanie York, Rudi Kronhardt, Alyssa Durnie and instrumentalists Alix Cooper, Kevin Jackson, and Beth Thompson.
