Faculty Artists & Friends Concert
Featuring Erin Fung, clarinet; Christopher Sales, bassoon; Cheryl Emery, piano
7:30 pm, February 28, 2017
University Recital Hall

We invite you to a dynamic evening of woodwind music featuring the clarinet and bassoon performed by new faculty artist Erin Fung, and her husband, principal bassoon of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Christopher Sales. With repertoire ranging from Romantic Mendelssohn, a virtuosic opera Fantasia on themes from Rigoletto, Mozart's elegant and charming bassoon concerto, to the wild and exotic modern music by Widmann, Aho, and D'Riviera, there will surely be something for everyone!

Erin Fung
has established herself as one of the most sought after clarinetists in Canada, and has performed extensively with the Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Victoria, and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras. Erin currently performs as the principal clarinetist of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, and the second/bass clarinetist of the Vancouver Opera.  Also an avid chamber musician and soloist, Erin has performed with the Project Muse ensemble touring throughout communities in Southern Alberta, and is a member of the Prevailing Winds woodwind quintet in Calgary.

Now in his fifth year as Principal Bassoon of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Christopher Sales continues to bring beauty and joy to Calgary's classical music audience.  Sales has performed as Principal Bassoon with the Norrkoping, Charleston, Jacksonville, and as Associate Principal Bassoon of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.  He has also appeared as a Guest Musician with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Alabama Symphony, New World Symphony, Augusta Symphony, and the Savannah Symphony.

Canadian pianist Cheryl Emery is based in Calgary and specializes in the field of song in recital with Canada’s professional and emerging vocal talent. After completing an M.Mus in Vocal Operatic Coaching at McGill with Michael McMahon, Cheryl moved to Europe to pursue a post-graduate degree in Concert Accompanying with Julius Drake at the Kunst Universität in Graz, Austria. In addition to current recital and recording projects, Cheryl is busy with the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus, Spiritus Chamber Choir and Luminous Voices.
