Abstract: Three recent books by Indigenous thinker Blair Stonechild argue for an essential role for spirituality in what he calls ecolization, a model for a sustainable relationship between humans and their supporting ecologies. If we profess to take Indigenous wisdom seriously, it is crucial to grasp that Indigenous spirituality is not merely symbolic or mythical, though it can be those things. It claims to speak of a reality with which people intersect. The aims of this paper are to draw attention to this important facet of Indigenous thought, to show that there is more room for it in modern physics than is usually presumed, and to underscore its moral and ethical dimensions.
