“My most recent work has explored the relationship of modernity to structures that buttress and frame a sense of the self. In 2009 I exhibited a series drawings paintings and sculptures at MKG127 in Toronto that charted the polarities of hippy culture, recovery and religion and questioned the role of the “the spiritual in art.” My most recent show “Display” at the same gallery followed similar lines. Starting from a found photograph of a religious display booth at the 1963 Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto, I explored the difficulty this image evoked in trying to represent a system of belief, and also by the impossibility of the task, the failure of representation. Given its context this picture highlighted the seeming incommensurability of religion and secularity. Working in sculpture, drawing, painting, and ceramics my work shuttles between the historically determined languages of religion and modernity, looking for spaces where these two poles are cross-contaminated within the personal and symbolic topography of the imagination.”

Born in 1970 in Alert Bay, British Columbia Sky Glabush lives and works in London, Ontario , where he teaches at Western University.
