ART NOW - Julie Beugin Speaks March 13th, 2017 at Noon in the Recital Hall

This event is from the archives of The Notice Board. The event has already taken place and the information contained in this post may no longer be relevant or accurate.

Julie Beugin will discuss her development and current work, by describing her changing engagement with space and place though a commitment to material process in painting.

Julie Beugin’s abstract, collage based paintings are derived from the everyday landscapes of the city. Works feed into each other in an ongoing transformative ecosystem as canvas cut outs from unsuccessful paintings are adhered onto new surfaces, giving her suggestive spaces a sense of unfolding contingency. She completed her BFA at Emily Carr University (2004) and her MFA at Concordia University (2008), and her MFA thesis exhibition was held at Optica centre d’art contemporain in Montréal. She was shortlisted for the RBC painting competition in 2009 and has been the recipient of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts. Recent exhibitions include After the Fire at Horse and Pony Fine Arts, and Detours at Paul Petro Contemporary Art, Toronto. Beugin currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
