Lecture description

The artists and the spaces for which Catriona Jeffries has directed the gallery’s project, from Vancouver in dialogue with the ecosystem of an international contemporary art community.

Biography

Catriona Jeffries owns and directs one of Canada’s pre-eminent spaces for contemporary art which is recognized internationally for its ongoing, rigorous contribution to contemporary art discourse. Established in 1994, the gallery represents artists of international prominence whose practices have emerged out of the renowned conceptual art histories of Vancouver. By maintaining dialogues with artists, writers, curators, museums and private collections, Catriona Jeffries continues to curate projects that contextualize the work of gallery artists within an historical and international trajectory, as well as with those of other artists working internationally through an expanded practice of exhibition making and research.  Catriona Jeffries is currently leading the move of the gallery’s next prominent exhibition space in Vancouver, scheduled to open in later November where the renovation design by Patkau architects of a large 1970’s industrial metalwork warehouse is currently underway.   Continuing the gallery’s history of publishing, CJ Press was created in 2006 where the written and spoken word are explored on the occasion of each gallery project.  Catriona Jeffries has a respected reputation in representing its artists in prominent private and museum collections, both in Canada and internationally.
