Biography
Amy Modahl has always enjoyed playing with patterns in visual and verbal language, from grammar to gesture, in writing, drawing, painting or print. She traverses the professional and amateur. At times the result is a sober engagement with colour, line and shape; at times her work is playful, even parody. She tends to find humour in dry sources like political speeches business journals and academic textbooks. Her present drawing projects interrogate the scripted gestures of politicians and the discourse of lie detection. This work reignites the tone of her work with the performance and zine-making project Janet. Amy has also taught for many years at the post-secondary level, subjects including: Linguistics, visual art, art history, literature, writing and ESL. Currently she teaches in the Communications Department at Okanagan College in British Columbia.
