Furniture by Artists
Nick Wade taught sculpture, printmaking and foundation studies at U of L from 1994-2011. He has also taught at The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Queen’s University, Tyler School of Art and David Thompson University Centre. In his sculptural work he has often sought a relationship between typography, furniture and architecture with the understanding that, just as we inhabit spaces/places , those spaces have a way of inhabiting us.
In this talk he will show images of furniture made and used by artists, designers, architects and DIY’ers while posing questions about the almost universal appeal of invention of this type. AND How does furniture work and how does it recognize us in order to live with us in a particular space? Experiments by designers in furniture form and construction will lead to questions around furniture and commodity while artists use of furniture may also lead to similar questions while examples of innovative use and extreme context are also present.
