Alberta Prion Research Institute Grants Crafting Workshops
APRI will host two grant writing workshops geared toward their upcoming funding competitions.

Workshop Presenters
Dr. Linda Detwiler
Linda Detwiler is the Chair of the International Research Advisory Council for the Alberta Prion Research Institute. She is currently a Clinical Professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University. She also consults on TSE-related animal health issues. She has served as Senior Staff Veterinarian, Emergency Programs Staff, for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS) and as Veterinarian in Charge, APHIS's Veterinary Services. During her time with the USDA, Dr. Detwiler coordinated the national scrapie control program and TSE working group. Dr. Detwiler received her Bachelor's Degree in Dairy Science from the Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture and her Doctor of Medicine from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She has been a member of numerous national and international TSE advisory committees and currently serves as the chairperson of the FDA TSE Advisory Committee.
Dr. Rosemary Ommer
Rosemary E. Ommer holds an MA from Memorial University and a PhD from McGill University. An economic historian, geographer and interdisciplinary scholar who has worked at Memorial University, the University of Calgary and the University of Victoria, she has been grants crafting for faculty and students since 1990. She has chaired SSHRC doctoral and postdoctoral evaluation committees and has also been a member of SSHRC, NSERC and CFI adjudication committees. She is a one-time member of SSHRC Council and a successful recipient of SSHRC grant awards (including an MCRI in which she also received funding from NSERC). Dr. Ommer has run workshops on writing grant applications for both faculty and students at several Canadian universities. Although officially retired, she continues to hold workshops and craft grant applications as well as sit on SSHRC evaluation committees.
