This year marks the 11th year that the U of L’s JDC West Business Team has worked with United Way and local sponsors to organize Chillin’ 4 Charity – an event where students, business professionals, local celebrities and community members have the chance to plunge into icy water for a good cause.
Since 2005, the event has raised over $100,000 for community re-investment in programs that improve the day-to-day life of individuals and families in Lethbridge and across South Western Alberta.
On Friday, October 30, the local Fire Department will help fill an above-ground pool. Plenty of ice will be added to ensure the water will be extra cold as JDC West team members take turns diving in. Each team member spends the weeks beforehand collecting pledges and donations.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., members of the public and business community are invited to visit Galt Gardens to support the team. Cash donations will be accepted on-site.
JDC West is a student group that participates in case competitions against teams from other Canadian Universities. Teams have three hours to analyze a business case and develop a 20-minute presentation to deliver to a panel of industry judges. To learn more about JDC West, please visit www.ulethjdcwest.com.
