Tutorial for the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS2)

The TCPS2 is the standard by which the Human Participant Research Committee (HPRC) determines that research protocols involving human participants are ethically acceptable. This free interactive online tutorial is recommended for researchers, students, HPRC members, research participants, and members of the general public. Faculty members are invited to consider using this tool as a teaching resource for their research methods courses. The tutorial requires a minimum of 3 hours to complete (with log-in and log-out capabilities, it does not need to be completed in one sitting) and provides a printable Certificate of Completion.

Supplementary Webinars to the TCPS2

Sponsored by the federal Panel on Research Ethics, several free webinars are available that complement the online tutorial by exploring important TCPS2 topics as identified by the research community. Topics for future webinars may be suggested by emailing the Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research.

TCPS2 Interpretations

The Interagency Advisory Panel on Research Ethics provides an interpretation service to support the needs of participants, researchers and Research Ethics Boards (REBs) in the effective use and understanding of the TCPS2. Responses to written requests for interpretation are grouped into various categories in a publicly accessible bank of interpretations.
