About

Originally hailing from London, Ontario, Dr. Dawn Burleigh pursued a career as a high school teacher before embarking on her journey to attain a PhD at Western. She joined the Faculty in 2014 and now calls Lethbridge home. She expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to live and learn in Treaty 7 territory. In her leisure time, Dawn enjoys spending time with her husband and their adorable little dog, exploring all that southern Alberta has to offer.

Teaching Interests

Teaching is the heart and soul of Dawn's work, and it is where her passion lies. She loves teaching courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, focusing on curriculum, literacy, and research design. Dawn enjoys supervising students during their teaching practicums as witnessing their transformation into remarkable educators brings her an incredible sense of fulfillment.

Research Interests

Dawn's research primarily focuses on three key areas within teacher education: Indigenous education, practicum supervision, and educator wellness.

In 2023, Dawn was named one of the University of Lethbridge's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Scholars for 2024.
